TAMIL NADU GLORY
Tamil Nadu is also called “The Place of Temples” where different community came they added their essence in air of Tamil Nadu.
Tami Nadu was ruled by many communities like Pandyas , Cholas, Marathas, Cheras. But from all, Cholas influenced the land of Tamil Nadu most.
Later when britishers came they also exchanged the culture , food, spices. There are many thing that they gave to Tamil Nadu and they took from Tamil Nadu.
Cholas used the land of Tamil Nadu for farming of rice, the land was fertile due to Kaveri river and they properly used the fertile land.
Do you know Tamil Nadu grows more than 27 type of rice .
It is said that first rice was grown in china around 4000 years ago. About Farming of rice in India can be found in Yajur Veda .
In South India, rice can be considered as important for trade and it is also important item of their food, like it can be found in Idli, Dosa, Payasum etc.
Do you know? In Tamil Nadu, temple is called Kovil and it mixture of two words, ‘ko’ which means king and ‘ilam’ means house. So in Tamil Nadu the temples were considered as house of king.
This is really very shocking that during the time of cholas temples were the connecting medium between the people and the king. In temples same type of food was prepared for Prasad or bhog like food was prepared in palace for kings.
Dosa , idli, utappa all this things where served in temples and in palaces also.
There is reason behind Serving Prasad in temples as it feed those people who were unable arrange food for themselves .
In the temples of Tamil Nadu bhogs were prepared with milk , ghee and rice. The Brahmans who prepares the bhog have followed and maintain old traditional recipe .
Tamil Nadu was also influenced by Maratha culture,since shambhar which is famous as southindian cuisine was originated from Maratha community. I know it is very shocking, but this is true guys. A pure example of globalisation .
Although maxium food has Marathi touch but they use to serve their food on banana leaves which shows their tradition
Have you any idea why they use banana leave as plate???Eating food on banana leaves has scientefic benefits .It is said that serving hot food on banana leave and eating increases the vitamins in the food.
Puddukottai is an important place of Tamil Nadu which has gone through many cultural changes. The area is dry so like Rajasthani people they also dry the vegetables and make pickles . They dry the vegetables like beans, brinjal and meat for a year. The Puddukottai was influenced by chettinad cuisine , which was full of spices .
